Follow Up, Next Steps and Additional Resources

Grading is a lifelong journey and I encourage you to seek out opportunities to do project grading in your job wherever you can. Don’t assume you can’t do it as well as the rest of the team! Everyone starts somewhere and you have something important to offer.

References that I have found useful as I’ve worked on grading projects over the years are collected below. I also collect old books about construction and often find surprisingly useful text or illustrations. If you know of others, email me and let me know!

Aymer, Valerie, Landscape Grading: A Study Guide for the LARE  Skill building, clearly explained, with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Valerie is a treasure.

Unterman, Richard, Grade Easy  Out of print, worth seeking out second hand. This is an old but good guide with charming hand drawings and typewritten pages.
